Already have your Place ID?
How the generator works
Search for your business the way it appears on Google, with your town. When you pick your listing, the generator reads its Place ID, the code Google uses for one place on Maps, and adds it to the address of Google's review form. The finished link opens the star rating and a box to write in, already set to your business.
The link is a google.com address. It doesn't pass through Reputation Beam, so it keeps working whatever happens to us, and you can see exactly where it goes before you share it.
Google's own link, or this one?
If you can sign in to your Business Profile, Google gives you a short review link of its own. Its help page, Create a Google link or QR code to request reviews, shows where to find it. Use that one when you can: it's the link Google documents.
This generator is for when you can't get into the profile yet, someone else manages it, or you want the link in a minute. The address it builds isn't listed in Google's current Business Profile help, so test it, and switch to Google's own link once you have it.
Test your link before you share it
Open the link on a phone that isn't signed in to the business's Google account. You should see your business name, five empty stars and a box to write in. Then send it to a friend on another phone and ask them to open it without posting anything.
Google says Place IDs may change over time, so test the link again every few months, and whenever you move or change your business name. How to find your Google review link covers testing, and why a link stops working, in more detail.
Send it to every customer the same way
Put the link in the text or email that follows each visit, on receipts and invoices, and on a QR code at the counter. The wording matters less than asking everyone: how to ask customers for reviews has templates for each channel, and texting customers for reviews covers consent before the first text.
Google's review policy doesn't allow offering anything in return for a review, or asking only the customers you expect to be happy. Google's review policy, explained goes through the rest.
Questions
- Is this Google review link generator free?
- Yes. There's no sign-up, and no limit on how often your link is used once you have it. The business search itself has an hourly and a daily limit, because Google meters every search. If it's busy, paste your Place ID instead and the link is made the same way.
- Does the link go through Reputation Beam?
- No. The link is a google.com address with your Place ID on the end. Customers go straight to Google's review form, and nothing on our side can break it.
- Do I need to own the Google listing?
- No. Every public listing has a Place ID, so the link works whether or not you've claimed the profile. To reply to the reviews it brings in, you need a verified Business Profile.
- Why can't I find my business?
- Search with the name exactly as it shows on Google Maps, plus your town. A brand-new listing can take a while to appear in search results. If it still doesn't show, look up your Place ID with Google's free Place ID Finder and paste it under "Already have your Place ID?"
- What is a Place ID?
- The code Google uses to identify one place on Google Maps: a long string of letters and numbers that often starts with ChIJ. Google says Place IDs may change over time, which is why it's worth re-testing a link built from one every few months.
